Black Sierra Mod Update #5

ThQp | Comments: 0

There has been a new update released by the Black Sierra Mod team. Take a look:
In our Black Sierra update this month, we have a couple things to mention. One of the nicest changes we've made; happens to be the new website we've moved to. Yes, yes, we took everyone’s suggestion and got rid of the freewebs site. The new website will allow everyone to access everything all in one easy ad-free environment, this will include all our updates that we have here on Moddb, and some more exclusive information that will follow along the progress of production more closely. In addition to a much cleaner website, we've imbedded a new and professional forum in the same place.

As for actual game updates, Black Sierra has fixed the way it handles map switching. We've managed to link all maps together which allows for a quick ingame loading time, along with keeping all the information about the player, such as points, health, ammuniton and weaponry thoughout a whole game. This puts players into a position where a more logical approach is required to finish the campaign, as well as giving players a better reason to use team work. If a player rushes into battles, and loses health, his low-state of health will transfer to the next map resulting in higher chances of death later on.

We have also managed to put another weapon in-game, it is an effective fully automatic primary weapon that can be selected at the beginning of the game.

You can find this entire update here.
WarmGun Weekly Update #4

ThQp | Comments: 0

The WarmGun Mod team has sent out the most recent of their Friday updates. Take a look:
Well this week has seen some big change for the Warm Gun team...
We lost 3 members this past week who were all picked up by professional studios.
This is the main reason for us to be in this mod world so I look at it as a positive thing, these 3 members were an integral part of our operations so with them moving on we now have positions open.
If your looking to join a project that will get your work noticed feel free to visit our forums and post your work. We are looking for 3D talent as well as Texture artists.
You can apply here... Warmgun.ca

So now onto this weeks update...
First up we have some new weapon renders, these shots feature the outlaw pistol.

Next up we have A new Character render to show...Unfortunately the modeler has bailed so its not finished...it will need some love, so if your a character molder please step up and help out.

Next is the blacksmiths Gatling Gun... This is also a WIP shot...

Next week we will have some fly by videos of the newest level...that should hopefully get people up to speed on what the Warm Gun world will look like. We have had so many comments about how confusing the genre is so we have hired a new writer to help re-evaluate the Warm Gun back story so expect to get a more detailed impression of the story soon. Thanks again for the great feedback... we are pushing forward as always.
Rock N Roll.

Piracy Running Free With UT III

ThQp | Comments: 7

In a recent article posted by TG Daily, Mark Rein and Cevat Yerly discussed how piracy has had a major impact on the sales of UT III and Crysis. Take a look:
We spoke with Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games, and learned that the Unreal Tournament 3 servers received over 40 million attempts at illegitimate access using pirate keys. That number is huge, and the real magnitude comes when you calculate the retail price of $49.99 (59.99 for Collector's Edition).

If those 40 million players actually paid the full price, it would have been nearly $2 billion more in Epic’s pocket book. That is more than the quarterly sales results from Nvidia or AMD. To add another perspective, the government lost out as well, because no sales tax is earned on pirated copies.

The crossbow was designed by James Towne and modeled by Pieter Kuijt, it's a steam enhanced / modified crossbow that will be able to wreak havoc from long range.

Project Stealth Map Teaser

ThQp | Comments: 0

The Project Stealth Mod team have released a new teaser for one of their maps known as Lakehouse. Take a look:
After a long wait, we finally reveil our first map called "Lakehouse". Although inspired by one of the most popular maps of another SAM game, Lakehouse will feature an even better gameplay in a totally different atmosphere. The changes in level layout will greatly affect the way people will play this map and we think this new twist will make the map more enjoyable.

We also released our first Developer's Commentary a few days ago, showing off the power of the Unreal Engine 3, when combined with special materials and advanced overlay effects.

As icing on the cake, the Project Stealth team has decided to enter the Make-Something-Unreal contest by Epic Games.
Mark Rein Discusses Misunderstanding Regarding UE4

ThQp | Comments: 0

In a recent interview with CVG, Mark Rein explained what was meant by Tim Sweeney's remarks on UE4 and the next generation of games. Take a look:
There were also some rumblings recently regarding Unreal Engine 4 and what platforms it will, or will not, be appearing...

Rein: One of the biggest misconceptions was when (Epic co-founder) Tim Sweeney was talking about Unreal Engine 4 and he mentioned something along the lines of it being exclusively for the next generation of consoles.

What he meant was, it won't run on this generation of consoles, but people assumed what he meant was that it won't run on PCs. Hello - all game technology runs on PC, that's how you build it. Of course it'll be on PC. That should go without saying.

But people took that as [a sign of] us abandoning PCs - and Tim said something about UE4 coming to consoles first. Unreal Engine 3 came out on consoles first - there's nothing new about that.

More UT To Come

ThQp | Comments: 1

Yesterday Shacknews posted up a new interview that they had with Epics' Tanya Jessen. Check it out:
Shack: So what's next after UT3 and Gears of War 2? More Unreal? Something new?

Tanya Jessen: We've got a few secret projects that will be talked about I'm sure in the coming time. We love the Unreal franchise and I assure you there's more to come.

The guys are working really hard to continue to support it because this, I mean, Epic wouldn't be Epic without Unreal. This is definitely something that we're continuing to work on and continuing to improve.

But Gears 2, yeah! Our company is really focused on it right now.

Shack: Speaking of that, when the Unreal Tournament 3 trailers started coming out, a lot of people saw the tag line "From the makers of Gears of War" and took that as a sign that Epic was abandoning its PC heritage and old die-hard fans.

Tanya Jessen: Gears is a game that we all worked on and that we're phenomenally proud of. It's hard to really describe, but when you spend 16, 18, maybe 20 hours a day on this game to get it out on time, knowing that it would do well because it was awesome but not ever expecting it to reach the level [it did]--you can expect that we want to bring UT to the same people that loved Gears.
